Greens Keeper - Turf Talk -10/3/2011
Along with trying to aerate fairways we have also completed some projects on the golf course. As many of you have seen we have leveled the back tee on #16 and seeded it to bentgrass. Since this is a tee that is used by the men, we decided to level and seed a tee that used primarily by the ladies, so we also leveled and seeded the forward tee on #11.
We have also been working on applying broadleaf herbicides to the rough this fall, which is the best time to apply these products and receive the most benefit from them. So far we have treated 8 acres and we plan to apply to approximately 50 acres if the weather allows this to happen. The month of September has brought many days with rain and most broadleaf herbicides really need to dry for about a day to be effective, so let’s hope for a little break from the rain in October!
The course has healed nicely this fall from the brutal summer, we will continue to fit in fairway aeration and some seeding to rough areas to make the healing process even better. This along with the projects and herbicide application should make the course look great for the rest of this season and the spring of 2012!
As always if you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to email me.
